Our Structure

We have designed our structure carefully allow us to be pragmatic whilst maintaining democratic accountability to our membership.

The Membership

The membership is made up of all members of the Manx Labour Party who are in good standing.

All power within our party comes from the membership and any offices and structures that exist around it are meant to do nothing more than to facilitate and enact their will whilst keeping to the limitations specified within our constitution.

Leader

The Leader acts as the public face of the party and is given the power to speak publicly on their behalf by the membership. The Leader must win an election every year at the Annual General Meeting to keep their position.

Chair

The Chair is responsible for the everyday running of the party, for ensuring all members are heard and for keeping general good order within the officership. Within that role they also act as a mediator in any internal disputes. The Chair must win an election every year at the Annual General Meeting to keep their position.

Steering Group

The Steering Group acts as an elected council within the party. It holds meetings to discuss party direction, develops stratagy and brings any needed changes to the membership to be voted on. Steering Group members can be added or removed by the membership at the monthly meeting but it will always contain the Chair and the Leader.

Officership

Officers are voted in during the Annual General Meeting and take on any permanent jobs that are essential to the functioning of the party. This ranges from the Secretary to the Election Officer. All officers must win an election every year at the Annual General Meeting to keep their position.

Working Group Chairs

Working Group Chairs have been asked by the membership to set up and manage a Working Group towards a specific task or group of tasks for the Party. The chair may run this group however they see fit but must report back to the Membership (either through the Steering Group or directly) for any decisions to be made.

Think Tank Chairs

Think Tank Chairs have been asked by the membership to set up and manage a Think Tank towards finding solutions or a group of solutions for the Party, either in regards to internal administration or policy decisions. The chair may run this group however they see fit but must report back to the Membership (either through the Steering Group or directly) for any decisions to be made.

Advisors

Advisors can be appointed by the Leader or Chair to advise the party on specific topics to help create policy or lead its direction. They do not have any additional power or responsibility.
